Imagine having an assistant who helps you in different areas of your business — from content creation to business strategy to marketing and planning — without costing you hundreds or even thousands of dollars each month.
Thanks to ChatGPT’s custom GPT feature, you can!
It’s been almost 2 years since I created my first custom GPT and it has completely changed my business, and how I work.
ChatGPT can be incredibly helpful in so many ways, but it can get time-consuming when you have to provide the same details over and over again every time you ask it to do something.
One of the things I use ChatGPT for a lot is to help me come up with content ideas that are personalized to my customer avatar.
In the past, I would always have to tell ChatGPT about my customer avatar by either pasting the details in the prompt or attaching a file. It took time and could sometimes be frustrating having to explain the same things over and over to make sure it fully understood who my ideal customer was.
But that all changed when I created a custom GPT that’s trained on my customer avatar.
It is trained on all of the important details about my customer avatar.
And, has made such a big difference in the results I get — like night and day.
Because it really “knows” and understands who my ideal customer is, it gives me content and ideas that are personalized to their needs and preferences.
The best part is, I don’t have to waste time repeatedly telling ChatGPT the details every time I need it to help me.
Since then, I’ve created over 20 custom GPTs that I use for my business, and some I share with others to use.
If you’re thinking this sounds great – let me tell you more about what custom GPTs are so you can create one for your business.
What Are Custom GPTs?
Custom GPTs are specialized versions of ChatGPT that you train on one specific thing—like your customer avatar, brand voice, or a particular task you do repeatedly.
Instead of explaining the same information every time you start a new conversation, a custom GPT already knows what you need. It’s like having a version of ChatGPT that’s specifically designed to help you with one area of your business.
The key is to keep each custom GPT focused on a single purpose. If you try to make it do too much, it can become less effective and confusing.
By training different GPTs for different tasks, you can streamline your work and get better, more consistent results.
Why You Need a Custom GPT
If you find yourself:
- Copying and pasting the same information into ChatGPT over and over
- Repeating details about your customer avatar, brand voice, or business
- Explaining the same context every time you need help with a specific task
…then custom GPTs are the solution.
They save you time, reduce frustration, and ensure you get consistent results without having to re-explain everything.
Plus, they’re free to create if you have the ChatGPT Paid Plan.
Two Essential Custom GPTs Every Business Owner Should Have
1. Customer Avatar GPT
This GPT is essential because everything you create should be tailored to your audience.
Having a GPT trained on your customer avatar means it already knows your ideal customer’s pain points, needs, and interests.
Whether you’re creating blog posts, social media content, or new product ideas, it can help you make sure everything is aligned with what your audience is looking for.
2. Brand Voice GPT
Your brand voice is what sets you apart, and having a GPT trained to write in your specific tone can make a huge difference.
Whether it’s crafting emails, writing blog posts, or even responding to customer inquiries, a Brand Voice GPT will ensure that everything you create sounds like you.
Consistency in how you communicate helps build trust with your audience.
Other Custom GPTs You Can Create
Once you understand how custom GPTs work, the possibilities are endless. Here are a few more ideas:
Blog Post GPT: Create a custom GPT that understands your blog style, audience, and topics. It can brainstorm fresh content ideas, create detailed outlines, and draft complete posts that match your voice and structure—so you’re never staring at a blank screen wondering what to write.
Email Writing GPT: Train a custom GPT to write emails exactly how you would—whether it’s sales emails, welcome sequences, or follow-ups. It knows your tone, messaging, and goals, so every email feels authentic and aligned with your brand.
Social Media GPT: Build a custom GPT that knows your brand guidelines, audience preferences, and content themes. It can generate post ideas, draft captions, and suggest content angles—all tailored to your specific platform and style.
And that’s not all—you can create a custom GPT for many of the tasks you do repeatedly, like writing landing or sales pages, creating a workshop outline, crafting product descriptions, and so much more.
You can also have a custom GPT that is trained on your business so you can ask for advice when you need help.
Creating custom GPTs for specific areas of your business will help you save time, reduce repetitive tasks, and keep everything running smoothly.
You Don’t Need to Be Tech-Savvy
Here’s the best part: you don’t have to be techy or know how to code.
OpenAI made creating custom GPTs a super simple process that anyone can do.
*You do need ChatGPT’s paid plan in order to create a custom GPT.
